Singapore's green ambitions: Are you ready to lead?

With Singapore's Green Plan setting ambitious sustainability targets and the Carbon Pricing Act taking effect, the pressure is on for businesses in Singapore to demonstrate their commitment to environmental responsibility.

Leaders can no longer afford to ignore the growing urgency for sustainable practices. From reputational risk to regulatory compliance, the stakes are higher than ever.

This is your opportunity to not only meet, but exceed, Singapore's sustainability expectations and position your company as a leader in the region.

The Fujitsu sustainability transformation report, “Charting a course for change”, this year surveyed 600 executives across 15 countries.

Almost half of executives in Asia Pacific recognise sustainability as a strategic priority. Yet only 13% have achieved concrete outcomes from their efforts.

This stark disparity highlights a critical challenge. How can Asia Pacific organisations transform their sustainability goals into reality?

The Asia Pacific challenge: Defining ROI and leveraging data-driven insights

One of the primary obstacles for Asia Pacific organisations is the difficulty in defining the return on investment for their sustainability initiatives. This uncertainty often leads to push-back from internal stakeholders, who are more focused on immediate financial returns than long-term benefits.

Also, unlike their global counterparts, many Asia Pacific firms are still struggling to effectively harness data to drive their sustainability efforts. Data maturity is critical for successful sustainability transformation, yet this is an area where many in the region need to improve.

Bridging the sustainability gap with digital innovation

Despite these challenges, digital innovation is the key to bridging this gap. Two-thirds of firms in Asia Pacific already use digital technologies to support their sustainability initiatives and plan to increase their investment in these areas. By better harnessing the power of data and digital tools, organisations can improve their efficiency, drive business growth, and make a positive impact on our planet and society.

Change makers turbo charge sustainability efforts

“Change makers” are innovative leaders who have made significant strides in their sustainability initiatives by effectively leveraging digital technologies and data. Fujitsu has identified this cohort as a key factor in driving change and success.

One standout example of accelerating sustainability transformation is the Fertilizer Exchange in Singapore, the first independent digital global platform for trading fertilizer.

Traditionally, the global fertilizer market used paper bills and analogue communications, making it inefficient and risky. The organisation had the opportunity to develop a secure and reliable blockchain-enabled trading platform to revamp how fertilizer is traded.

Fertilizer Exchange turned to Fujitsu to co-create a blockchain-enabled platform, using Fujitsu Enterprise Blockchain solutions and Distributed Ledger Technology built on Hyperledger. Hosted on Microsoft Azure, this platform has ensured seamless, transparent, and efficient trading, reducing fraud and speeding up transactions.

By opening global market access to traders, it has already signed up over 150 companies, highlighting the power of digital solutions in driving sustainability.

Driving sustainable growth with a modern cloud strategy

PPP Green Complex is another organisation that has embraced the “change maker” mindset, aiming to transform the palm oil industry in Thailand more sustainably. To achieve international standard quality products, PPP Green Complex needed to enhance their production process to integrate work processes and build a systematic product chain.

With Fujitsu’s support, the firm implemented SAP S/4HANA and Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure. This has greatly improved operational and production efficiency across its six plants, to drive its sustainable growth.
