Fujitsu New Zealand is moving to a 100% certified renewable energy product, certified by the NZ Energy Certificate System (NZECS).
Mika Joronen, Country Manager, Fujitsu New Zealand, said, “The NZECS certification confirms Fujitsu’s commitment to sustainable growth in New Zealand. Meridian Energy is a long-term Fujitsu customer, and we’re excited to partner with them to support electricity generation that matches the values of both our organisations and New Zealand’s goals for low-carbon growth.”
As of April 1, 2020, nearly 100% of Fujitsu New Zealand’s electricity are certified under the scheme, which verifies that the electricity it consumes from the national grid is matched with 100% renewable energy from Meridian Energy’s generation assets.
“Fujitsu has a sustainability program in New Zealand that goes back more than a decade, and we’ve reduced electricity emissions from our Oceania offices by more than 70% since 2008” said Blaise Porter, Director Responsible Business at Fujitsu. “The investment in the NZECS certification means we can now report our New Zealand Scope 2 electricity emissions as zero*, as Fujitsu moves to be a global net-zero emissions business by 2050.”
In 2018, Fujitsu became Japan’s first Gold Member of the RE100, an international initiative led by The Climate Group in partnership with CDP. RE100 aims to have companies use 100 per cent renewable energy for the electricity they consume. In accordance with this commitment, Fujitsu will continue to expand its use of renewable energy with the goal of sourcing 100 per cent of the electricity consumed at company locations, both in and outside of Japan, from renewable sources by 2050.
